Title
OCEAN WAVES, OCEAN WIND, OCEAN CURRENTS APPLICATION RESEARCH IN COASTAL ZONES BASED ON MULTI-SENSOR SATELLITE DATA
» Study areas
Study Areas
Executive Summary
Coasts are heavily influenced by human activities, such as shipping, fishing, oil exploration and naval operations. In the past decades, the development of numerical ocean models and spaceborne satellite ocean observations has been very fruitful in the investigation of the respective processes. There is still room for improvement however concerning the analysis of small scale processes. Of particular interest are processes taking place at the air sea interface. The goal of the project is to exploit ocean wave, ocean wind and ocean currents behavior in coastal zones using high resolution SARs. In this project higher level products like wind field, sea state parameters including 2D wave spectra, integral wave parameters and individual wave parameters and current parameters will be derived from ERS-2 SAR, Envisat ASAR, HJ-1-C (China S-band SAR) and TerraSAR-X and intercompared to models and in situ measurements. The scientific work will be financed from internal resources of the participants. The deliverables of this proposal are papers, reports in particular on the respective prototype algorithms. Additional funding will be applied for from the China-Germany governmental cooperation in the framework of the science and technology programm.
